CHICAGO, Ill. – AJC Chicago is pleased to announce that Michael W. Ferro, Jr. has been selected to receive the prestigious Civic Leadership Award by the American Jewish Committee (AJC) in recognition of his exceptional professional accomplishments and dedication to many philanthropic and civic endeavors. AJC will honor Mr. Ferro at the Ritz-Carlton Chicago on April 9, 2014. The event is being chaired by Jeffrey Aronin, John Canning, Jr., James Gray, Kenneth Griffin, Tom Ricketts, and Bruce White.

Mr. Ferro is a technologist, who has created, founded and built numerous tech. companies including, Merrick Ventures, Merge, Click Commerce, Higi, HighSchool Cube, Aggrego and Wrapports; the owner of the Chicago Sun-Times, Chicago Reader, Splash, and many other publications. He is the past chairman of the Chicagoland Entrepreneurial Center, the past First Vice Chairman of the Economic Club of Chicago, and chairman emeritus of YPO Chicago.

His long history of participation in civic and philanthropic endeavors includes serving as a trustee of the Museum of Science and Industry, The Field Museum of Chicago, Northwestern University, and the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Mr. Ferro is a Henry Crown Fellow at the Aspen Institute and is a director with the RAND Health Board of Advisors. He serves on the boards of Northwestern University, The Chicago Community Trust, Children’s Memorial Hospital, Northwestern Memorial Foundation and Big Shoulders Foundation.
