AJC Chicago's efforts on behalf of Greek Jews
AJC Chicago Meets with Greek Ambassador Regarding Recent Synagogue Arson In January, the only synagogue on the Greek island of Crete, Etz Hayyim Synagogue, which dates back to the 15th Century, was set on fire twice in the span of seven days. AJC Chicago immediately wrote to Greek’s Consulate in Chicago to request a meeting with Greek Ambassador Petrovas. On Tuesday, February 5, AJC Chicago representatives met with Ambassador Petrovas, who strongly condemned the attacks and reported that Greek had arrested five people in connection with crime.
